your basecamp on the move
Roof Tents & Awnings
Roof tent and awning fitting in Scunthorpe. Roof top tents, awnings and racks fitted strong and sealed right, so your basecamp goes up in minutes, by the MDK crew.
Roof Tents & Awnings, Fitted To Last
A roof top tent turns any 4×4 into a basecamp you can pitch in minutes, but only if it is mounted properly. Get the rack, load rating and fixings right and it rides quiet, seals out weather and lasts for years. Get it wrong and you get wind noise, leaks and a nervous feeling every time you hit a bump. At Mad Dogg Kustoms we fit roof tents and awnings to racks rated for the job and sealed against the British weather.
We supply and fit hard-shell and soft-shell roof tents, 270 and side awnings, load bars and full roof racks, all matched to your vehicle roof and how much you want to carry. Weekend campers and full overland rigs leave with a setup that goes up fast, stays dry and comes down without a fight.

What We Fit

Roof Top Tents
Hard-shell and soft-shell tents mounted to properly rated racks, sealed and set up so they open in minutes and ride quiet.

Racks & Awnings
Roof racks, load bars and 270 or side awnings fitted to carry the kit and throw shade or shelter wherever you park up.

Load-Ready Setup
Roof load adds weight up high, so we advise on springs and setup to keep the truck composed with a tent up top.

How Your Setup Comes Together
- How you camp. Solo weekends or a full family overland rig. We match the tent, awning and rack to your vehicle and how much you carry.
- Rack & rating. The right rack and load bars specced for the dynamic and static weight, because a tent full of people is a serious load.
- Mount & seal. Tent and awning bolted to rated points and sealed against weather, with cabling for lights run in tidy where fitted.
- Set up & balance. We check ride height and advise on suspension so the extra roof weight does not upset how the truck drives.
- Show you the ropes. A full run-through of pitching, packing and securing, so your first night out is not a wrestling match in the dark.
Roof Tent & Awning FAQs
Can my car take a roof top tent?
Most 4x4s and many estates and vans can, but it comes down to the dynamic and static roof load ratings and fitting the right rack. Tell us the vehicle and the tent you like and we will confirm what it can safely carry.
Hard-shell or soft-shell roof tent, which is better?
Hard-shells are quicker to open, quieter on the roof and more weatherproof, but cost more and offer less floor space. Soft-shells are roomier and cheaper but slower to pitch. We will talk you through which suits your camping and budget.
Will a roof tent affect how my 4×4 drives?
A tent adds weight up high, which raises the centre of gravity and can affect handling and economy. We advise on suspension to keep it composed and always fit to the vehicle dynamic load rating for safety.
Do roof tents leak?
A properly fitted, quality tent sealed correctly stays dry. Most leak stories come from poor mounting or worn seals. We fit and seal them right and can service and re-seal older tents too.
Can you fit an awning at the same time?
Yes, and it is the sensible time to do it. A 270 or side awning shares the same roof rack and cabling, so fitting them together keeps the install tidy and saves labour.
