Chassis Welding To A Structural Standard

Everything your car does goes through its chassis and floor. When legs, outriggers or floorpans go soft, the whole car is compromised, and no amount of shiny paint on top changes that. Our chassis repair work is structural welding done properly: rot cut back to sound metal, repairs formed from correct-gauge steel, and welds that will pass any inspection you point at them.

We repair and replace chassis legs, outriggers, crossmembers, boot floors and complete floorpans on classics, kit cars and the eternally crusty Land Rover. Where a repair section does not exist, we fabricate it. Where a full chassis swap makes more sense, we will tell you that instead.

How Your Repair Comes Together

  1. Poke it properly. On the lift, hammer and probe survey of the whole underside, photographed so you see exactly what is solid and what is not.
  2. Plan the repair. Repair sections, part-chassis or full replacement, we lay out the options with honest costs for each before cutting.
  3. Cut & brace. The structure is braced so nothing moves, then rot comes out back to bright steel. Alignment is checked as we go, not hoped for.
  4. Weld in new. Correct-gauge steel formed and welded in with full penetration, dressed, primed and seam sealed.
  5. Protect & prove. Underseal and cavity wax throughout, then geometry checked so the car sits and steers exactly as it should.

Chassis Repair FAQs

How much does chassis repair cost?

It depends how far the rot goes and how much fabrication is involved. A single outrigger is a modest job, multiple legs with a boot floor is a bigger one. We survey on the lift first, show you the photos and quote from what is actually there.

Is a welded chassis repair MOT legal?

Yes, structural welding using appropriate steel with continuous seam welds is exactly what the MOT expects. What fails are patch plates stitched over rot, which is precisely what we do not do.

Repair the chassis or replace it completely?

On separate-chassis vehicles like Land Rovers, a galvanised replacement sometimes beats endless repairs on cost over time. We price both honestly and tell you which we would choose if it were ours.

Can you replace just a section of floorpan?

Yes, part panels and half floors are common and sensible where the rest is solid. The repair is joined on strong lines, welded through and sealed, so it ends up stronger than the original pressing.

How do I stop the rust coming back?

After repair everything gets seam sealer, underseal and cavity wax injected into the hidden sections. An occasional wash off underneath and a top-up of the protection keeps a repaired chassis solid for decades.
