How Your Rebuild Comes Together
- Diagnose first. Compression, leak-down and oil analysis before anything comes apart, so you are paying to fix what is actually wrong.
- Strip & measure. Everything apart, cleaned and measured against spec. You get the sheet: what is serviceable, what needs machining, what needs replacing.
- Machine & source. Reboring, grinding, skimming and balancing as the measurements demand, with parts sourced properly, not just whatever is cheapest.
- The build. Assembled with correct clearances, torques and lubrication, documented as it goes together. Clean room habits, greasy fingerprints optional.
- Run in & prove. Started, run in on a schedule, re-torqued and re-checked, then handed back with the build file and running-in guidance.
Engine Rebuild FAQs
How much does an engine rebuild cost?
Engine rebuild cost depends on the engine, what the measurements reveal and how much machining is needed. A top-end refresh is very different money to a full rebuild with a rebore. We diagnose and strip first, then quote from the measurement sheet, so the price is based on facts.
Is a rebuild better than a replacement engine?
Usually, yes. A rebuild gives you a known-good engine with documented work, while a used replacement is someone else’s mystery. For classics where replacements barely exist, rebuilding is often the only proper option.
How do I know my engine needs rebuilding?
Low compression, blue smoke, rumbling bottom-end noise, heavy oil consumption or metal in the oil are the classic signs. We test before we strip, so if it just needs a smaller repair, that is what we will tell you.
Can you rebuild my gearbox at the same time?
Yes, and if the engine is out it is the smart time to do it. Fresh clutch, rebuilt box and new mounts while everything is accessible saves paying labour twice later.
How long does an engine rebuild take?
Typically a few weeks, driven mostly by machining and parts lead times. Classic engines with scarce parts can take longer, and we will give you an honest timeline once the measuring is done.
